A batarian born on Xamdos to the warrior caste.

Pre-CDN History[]

The Kan’obar family was well respected on Xamdos, brought over with some of the founding merchant families. They were one of the warrior caste families forming Xamdos’ police force for over a century.

Lakshan grew up training to be an enforcer, expected to do the exact same thing all of his family had. In a kind of arranged situation he was married to a powerful merchant family’s daughter, involved with one of Xamdos’ many scientific projects. Lakshan and Hahlva had a daughter, Pahnna.

As the situation on Xamdos became more and more mismanaged, and tensions rose, the young family decided that it was time to leave the Hegemony for other regions of space. Their warrior and merchant class connections made it easier to get contacts with those who would arrange their trip offworld. One of these contacts must have betrayed them, however, as government forces became aware of the plot as it came closer. In late 2184 their home was raided, and Hahlva was executed before getting out. Lakshan escaped carrying the young Pahnna. He managed to call in their ride offworld early, and was able to clear Xamdos under great stress. They were dropped without ceremony, however, on Omega.

They made a hard living for half a year, Lak having had to perform unsavory enforcement tasks or bouncer work. He was able to purchase passage for himself and little Pahnna to Illium, in hope of less dangerous surroundings. He applied for NAPD using his time as law enforcement on Xamdos as a basis and was accepted.

Institutionalized prejudice saw his career begin hard and slow, facing a number of hardships from both within and without the force. The fellow officers he worked with on the ground usually had no problems with him but the higher up the chain you went the more he was looked down on and passed over for important assignments. The sparkling Illium elite just wouldn’t want a batarian protecting and serving them, was the conventional wisdom. His experience and the batarian drive to continually prove himself would see him promoted eventually, however, and cutting his teeth in the rougher areas of Nos Astra provided plenty of opportunity to prove himself.

Amid the chaos of the Reaper War, he and the rest of NAPD did their best to survive, and help their communities survive. Lakshan and Pahnna both survived the ordeal. They relocated, along with most of the surviving officers of what is now Nos Dwicka, to New Nos Astra. His service before and during the War, and the losses inflicted to the force, saw him receive much more equal treatment, and a year or two after the war he found himself promoted to the Special Response unit
